【老師救救我】have got to 與 get to 的差別?!

看到 have got to 的時候,你的第一個反應是什麼呢?get to 的完成式嗎?

I’ve got to go now. My friend’s waiting.(我現在要走了。 裡面的 have got to 是什麼意思呢?

英文中長得很像的片語其實有三個:have got to、have got 以及 get to

have got to 與 have to

have got to = have to = got to(必須、需要)

表示「義務」的時候,have got to 其實就是 have to,只是 have got to 在口語上較常見,甚至在口語上也會把 have got to 念得很快,而變成 have gotta,或甚至在美式英文中以 got to(gotta)呈現,但這是最不正式的講法,建議不要在正式場合中使用。

例如:I have to pay my phone bill today, or they’re going to charge me more.(我今天必須要付我的電話帳單,不然他們要跟我多收費了。)
I have got to pay my phone bill today, or they’re going to charge me more.

Joan’s under tons of stress because she has to live up to her parents’ expectations.(Joan
Joan’s under tons of stress because she has got to live up to her parents’ expectations.

那 have got to 跟 have to 較大的差別是時態:have got to 只用於現在式,而 have to 則可以用於各種時態。例如:

They have to talk to each other to solve the problem.(他們必須跟彼此聊一聊,以解決問題。)
They have got to talk to each other to solve the problem.

We had to hurry to arrive at the airport in time.(我們必須趕路以及時抵達機場。)

have got to = must(一定)

表示「推論」的時候,have got to 就不是 have to 的意思囉,而是指 must。

例如:You must be kidding right now.(你現在一定是在開玩笑。)
You have got to be kidding right now.

Why is he sneaking into the kitchen? He must be hiding something.(他為什麼要溜進廚房?
Why is he sneaking into the kitchen? He has got to be hiding something.

get to ≠ have got to

Could you show me how to get to this museum?(你可不可以告訴我怎麼去這間博物館?)
I’ll get to section two if we all agree on the first section.(如果我們對第一部分都同意的話,我就會進到第二部分。)

I’m so glad I went to the concert. It was perfect, and I still couldn’t believe that I finally got to meet her in person!(我好開心我有去那場演唱會。

have got 與 have

Have got 其實就是更口語版的 have。

Do you have any painkillers?(你有沒有止痛藥?)
Have you got any painkillers?

He has a sweet family.(他有一個美滿的家庭。)
He has got a sweet family.
